Longhorn - SVG-RCC or Avalon?

Don Demcsak ("Don XML") has posted an interesting entry comparing the potential of W3C SVG-RCC and Microsoft's Avalon, Avalon Versus SVG-RCC .

Walk on past the stumbling first sentence of Don's entry to get to the meat of the discussion.

If you are not familiar with SVG, Scalable Vector Graphics, and you want to view Don's SVG examples you will need to download an SVG viewer to view the examples. Adobe's SVG Viewer, for example, is available for free download .

Note that some of the SVG-RCC examples which Don mentions require a later, prototype version of the Adobe viewer.

Like Avalon, SVG-RCC is cutting edge stuff. But it has enormous potential. If Microsoft doesn't pick up SVG-RCC I suspect that others will.

SVG-RCC is included in the SVG 1.2 specification which is under development at W3C.

Robin Berjon's comment in response to Don's blog entry is interesting: "when Microsoft employees came visit, they said they'd love to have SVG in MS products". It would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall during those discussions and the following in-house discussions at Microsoft when those developers put the case forward for SVG.
