No Microsoft Jobs unless you use Internet Explorer

I think I have stumbled across another facet of the broken search on Microsoft.com which I mentioned a few days ago in an article entitled, Why is Microsoft.com Search broken? .

If you use Firebird or Mozilla on the Microsoft Careers Site Search facility then any term including likely hits such as CLR and Longhorn return nothing other than the Search page again.

The result seems to be that only Internet Explorer users can search for jobs at Microsoft.

I don't think that this is really an issue. Would a cattle rancher hire a vegetarian to butcher his cattle? Or would McDonald's hire Wendy?

Microsoft's search engine is there to assist you with Microsoft related topics and technologies. And MICROSOFT Jobs. How many employers will hire someone that obviously does not like the products they would either be selling or supporting? It's not like Google which is cross platform.

So Ford shouldn't hire me fresh out of college because I'm driving my Dad's old Toyota?

That's not the issue. In today's world you are most probably not using IE because a) you don't want to or b) you have have enough knowledge to use linux or c) you are too stupid to install it on a mac. In any case, MS wouldn't want you (and I, as the head of an IT dept. woudn't either).

Because using Mozilla is so obviously an indication of a lower level of IT skills. Just because I use Linux, or prefer tabbed browsing, makes me less suitable to run Active Directory servers for an IT department? Bull.

Aside: You left off a major reason for not using IE - being fed up with security holes. What kind of IT department doesn't hire someone because they avoid security issues? Not one that deserves to exist.
