Who is Walt Mossberg?

Well, just who is Walt Mossberg? Until a few minutes ago I had never heard of the guy. But Scoble, My morning started out unusually...it's not every day you meet Walt Mossberg , clearly thinks it's a name worth dropping.

For me the name simply dropped ... right through the cracks.

It reminds me of a story about a manager at a famous hotel. Apocryphal or not? I am not sure.

The manager at this hotel was, so the story goes, really proud that two of his regular guests in a particular suite were Jack Nicklaus* and Leonard Bernstein**. One day it so happened that Jack Nicklaus booked in just after Leonard Bernstein had checked out. The manager decided to share with his new guest the famous predecessor in residence. "Mr. Nicklaus it's a pity you didn't arrive here a little earlier. Leonard Bernstein left this suite only a short time ago.". Nicklaus replied, "Who is Leonard Bernstein?". The manager's response isn't recorded.

Some time later Leonard Bernstein again booked into the suite and the manager thinks that he will find our little anecdote amusing. So, at a suitable moment, he mentioned the conversation with Jack Nicklaus to Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein's reply, "Who is Jack Nicklaus?".

Our world is a very big place and we, very often, assume that our tiny, transient perspective on it is the perspective. And that those we know and know about are the people.

But I guess I better check out Walt Mossberg, Personal Technology from the Wall Street Journal , and see if he knows his stuff.
