Yahoo, Yahoo! Birth of a New Machine , has launched a new search engine and is detaching from Google. The new Yahoo! Search performed well on my initial testing. On a Web search it performs similarly to Google on a site-specific search on Microsoft.com, for example.
Until now Google has been my preferred tool to search Microsoft.com, often performing better than Microsoft.com's own Search tool in my experience.
This follows the recent appearance of a beta of MSN Search - More Useful Everyday .
When I tested the MSN beta a couple of weeks back on an assortment of the searches I want to do it performed much less well than Google. I guess my assessment won't please the guys at Microsoft but MSN search is still a very long way behind Google in my view.
Yahoo! Search seems worth further exploration, though.
