For reasons that aren't relevant to very much I quickly popped into Jerry Pournelle 's Web site today.
I see he is claiming to have "the original blog".
So, was Jerry Pournelle the first blogger?
I remember his columns in Byte ... a magazine which could break your toe if you dropped it, rather than a Web site which merges unobtrusively into a very large crowd ... around 1985 which had a blogging-like character long before the notion of a Web log had been invented.
So, in my humble opinion, Jerry Pournelle does have a pretty good case for being considered the original blogger.
Does anyone have alternate suggestions?
