Miscellany: I own a slipstick and never knew it

The Web is great for the snippets of information that unexpectedly come your way. Today when browsing Sue Mosher's site, Outlook & Exchange
Solutions Center
I learned that I own a slipstick. Which was news to me.

A slipstick is according to Sue a 1950's slang term for a slide rule.

I guess that some younger readers may need the term slide rule explained. A slide rule is an analogue device which has precision markings which can be used to make mathematical calculations. Digital calculators, I suspect, wiped out the market for slide rules almost overnight.

My slipstick, by the way, is a Faber Castell 57/89.
