Internet Week are reporting, Microsoft Dissatisfaction Running High, Users Contemplate Switch , that dissatisfaction among users of Microsoft software is running high and that 41% of Microsoft software users are contemplating switching. Only 28% of users of Microsoft software describe themselves as satisfied.
I can sympathise. What's my present grumble about? About 30 minutes ago Windows suddenly switched from using UK keyboard layout (my norm) to US keyboard layout. Why? Nothing I did.
So I have two choices, drag up my memories of US keyboard layout on a UK keyboard (fortunately I remember quite a bit since this problem isn't new to me) or close down all the 20 or so applications / windows I have running, lose my place in a complex piece of information retrieval and structuring, reboot and then get myself back to where I was. Total time? Maybe 20 or 30 minutes. If there were stricter product liability it would be nice to bill Microsoft for the wasted time.
