I criticise Microsoft when their software is unstable, or doesn't work as expected so to be even handed I need to do the same when other software lets me down too. A little disappointintly, Firebird 0.7 has crashed a couple of times in the few days since I downloaded it.
I tend to load Firebird pretty heavily, often having a dozen or two tabs open at the same time. But Firebird 0.7 in my limited experience so far is less stable than Firebird 0.61.
But the absence of tabbed browsing in Internet Explorer still means that Internet Explorer is a browser I reserve for "special" uses - for example, in MSDN where, in some areas, use of proprietary JScript makes browsing with anything but Internet Explorer a bit problematic.
Posted by Andrew Watt at October 25, 2003 11:25 AMNo problems here... did you remember to delete the 0.61 directory under Program Files *before* installing 0.7? Your profile is saved under Documents and Settings, so it survives, but the application directory itself has to be deleted, not just overwritten.
You should also give AvantBrowser. It's free and makes IE bearable by adding tabs, popup-blocking, flash-blocking, and skins.
