"Big Software War" - Average Annual Income in Peru

In one of my early posts on what I call the "Big Software War", "Big Software War" - Some Economic Factors , I analysed the options of a family which had an annual income of $2,000, pointing out that Microsoft has a potentially big problem because typical Windows and Office licensing costs are prohibitive in a market where incomes are of that level.

Interestingly, I found out yesterday that the average annual income in Peru is $1,980 so my figure which was plucked out of the air to illustrate a point is directly relevant to at least one country where open source software is being actively promoted by its government.
