It seems that the issue of comment spam is gathering more attention. SixApart, the producers of Movable Type, are setting up TypeKey.com which will provide TypeKey Authentication Services as a way to attempt to stem the trickle (as it was for me until yesterday) or flood (as it was in the last 24 hours) of comment spam.
Time will tell I guess whether TypeKey.com makes any difference. It won't be available for some time since it is intended to work with Movable Type 3.0, which is currently in beta.
