The recent mention of unintelligible graphics which is loosely associated in my mind with the term hieroglyphics drew my attention to a very long term historical trend.
Way back in ancient Egypt people used pictures, hieroglyphics, to communicate in ... um ... writing(?).
For many centuries we have used letters to communicate in writing.
Now, with graphical computer interfaces we have returned ... for better or worse ... to the use of pictures to communicate. Assuming that interaction is a form of communication.
Interesting. At least it is to me.
Does anyone know if anyone has studied this seriously? Ideally studied it in a non-dry-as-dust way. Any URLs?
